Bi-convex or symmetric-convex lenses have two convex surfaces with identical radii. They have positive focal lengths and form both real and virtual images. They are recommended for virtual imaging of real objects and for positive conjugate ratios from approximately 0.2 to 5 (values are wavelength sensitive). Due to the symmetry, aberrations such as coma, distortion, and chromatic aberration almost exactly cancel out at unit conjugate ratio. Aberrations increase as conjugate ratios depart from unity.

Achromatic lenses are computer optimized to correct for on-axis spherical and chromatic aberrations. They consist of two optical components of different refractive index cemented together to form an achromatic doublet. These lenses are useful in axial imaging aplications where a small spot size is required and for broadband imaging covering the visible spectrum. They are supplied uncoated but many types of anti-reflection coating may be applied on request. These achromats offer excellent performance for demanding laser and on-axis imaging aaplications.
