Physical and Chemical Properties White crystals. Melting Point 61 ®c. The dihydrate has a melting point of 51 ® C., and its hydrochloride ([51-05-8]) is a white crystal or crystalline powder with a melting point of 153-156 ® C. Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in chloroform, almost insoluble in ether. No odor, slightly bitter taste, followed by a sensation of numbness and itch. Its aqueous solution is easy to decompose and fail after long storage, exposure or heating.
In vitro study After Procaine treatment, the cell viability of HLE, HuH7 and HuH6 cells decreased significantly. In procaine-treated HLE cells, morphological changes such as vacuolization were found, but the rate of apoptosis was not increased. After procaine treatment, all genes whose transcription was inhibited by DNA methylation were demethylated and reactivated. In human hepatoma cells, procaine has growth inhibitory and demethylating effects.
