Benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon, colorless, transparent, volatile and flammable oily liquid, with aromatic smells, toxic, insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ethyl ether, chloroform and other organic solvents, boiling point of 80.1 degree Celsius, the relative density of 0.879 , the melting point of 5.533 degree Celsius, self-ignition point of 580 degree Celsius, flash point of 11 degree Celsius, the explosion limit of 1.3 to 1.7% (volume), aniline <-30 degree Celsius.
Benzene is an important chemical raw material, mainly used for producing styrene monomer, cyclohexane, phenol, cumene, aniline, nitrobenzene and benzyl chloride etc., and is the main material for producing pesticides, synthetic plastics, synthetic detergents, dyes, etc., also is solvent for paint, vehicle and pesticides.
